Pete Deemer

CSM, CSP, CST

Hi! I’m Pete Deemer, and I’d like to become a Scrum Alliance board member to help contribute to the growth and success of teams using Scrum worldwide.

Scrum is rapidly moving into the mainstream of the software industry, but too many teams struggle to get the great results Scrum can enable. Scrum Alliance is in a unique position to help people get the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. I believe Scrum Alliance will be strengthened by having more directors with hands-on experience practicing, teaching, and coaching Scrum teams, and I believe I can contribute useful perspectives from my work as a Certified Scrum Trainer and leader of software organizations in Asia.

For the last six years I have been living in India and Singapore, and working with Scrum teams in India, China, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. I live in Bangalore, India, and I work with many of the largest companies here to help them achieve better results using Scrum. I am the founder of the Scrum-India community, which produces free community events to spread knowledge and awareness. I believe I will be an effective voice on the Scrum Alliance board for the large and growing Scrum Alliance membership based in India and Asia.

I believe I can also contribute strong credibility as a long-time contributor to Scrum thought and practice, through my work as a co-author of the widely read Scrum Primer. In addition to my work as a Scrum trainer and coach, I am also CEO of an Internet startup, Stormglass Ventures, which is being built from the ground up around Scrum and Agile principles and practices, so I very much practice what I preach.

Lastly, I believe I can add value to the board through the skills, experience, and relationships I’ve built as an entrepreneur, executive, and teacher in Silicon Valley over the last 19 years. I was a senior executive at Yahoo! and c|net Networks, and a founder of GameSpot. I believe I have a good understanding of what it takes for a board to be effective, and for board members to contribute successfully. I believe I can give an informed perspective, provide a broad network of industry relationships, and also bring a positive and enthusiastic energy to the good work of the Scrum Alliance board going forward.
