Michael Wollin is a Senior Development Manager in the Broadcast Production Systems group at CNN where he leads the development staff in providing fully integrated solutions for the CNN Worldwide News Group.  In the fast paced world of newsgathering and file based video workflow, where speed to market is critical, Wollin’s introduction of Scrum, Agility and Lean Principles into his division’s culture has had a significant impact. While mentoring his team on task estimation, quality, professional-level testing, writing for maintainability and improving product usability, he has played a pivotal role in creating more timely and scalable applications.

After joining CNN in 2007, Michael co-founded the Turner Agile User Group along with peers in different divisions of the company. Over 100 people attended the inaugural event. He remains an active member and contributor to the Agile Atlanta User Group. His certifications include CSP, CSM and CPSO.

Prior to joining CNN, Michael was principal of Mercury Software, Inc., a software contracting company he founded in 1989. Michael specifically set out to build an organization that could routinely produce high quality commercial software on a fixed fee, guaranteed schedule basis. He achieved this by employing advanced software engineering processes and methodologies, hiring the right people, and then empowering them to reach their potential.

Prior to 1989, Mr. Wollin was with Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc. where he helped design and code communications software, modem and networking firmware. He supervised the testing and certification of X.25-related products, was lead developer and interface designer for Smartcom II for the Macintosh. He was a key team member in the design of many communications protocols. One of these, Start/Stop HDLC, was adopted as an international standard (ISO 8885), and another, the Fast file transfer protocol, was independently proposed as an IEEE standard for flash ROM download applications.

Wollin earned a Master of Science in Information and Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Mathematics from Georgia State University. He is also a pilot and father of two and is based at CNN Worldwide headquarters in Atlanta.
