Joseph Dougherty is an experienced project manager and agile coach with a proven track record in agile organizational transformation and high value project delivery. Joe specializes in helping organizations with the successful adoption of agile processes (Scrum, XP, Lean and other iterative-incremental processes) either on a corporate enterprise-level or team-level. He has a successful history of leading teams to complete high quality deliverables under demanding timelines and an ability to manage complex projects, using leading-edge technologies, to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving marketplace. He creates an environment that fosters effective communication and uses proactive mentoring to help teams define and fulfill project goals.
Joe has been an independent agile consultant and coach since 2005. Previous to that, Joe was an agile coach and project manager for ThoughtWorks for 2 years. He has more than 20 years of experience leading Information Technology initiatives using a combination of traditional, agile, and lean engineering and project management best practices.
Joe has worked as an agile team member, Scrum Master and guided small and large project teams through a successful transition as an agile coach. More specifically, he has hands-on experience with project planning, product management, requirements definition, and the execution, testing and delivery of projects using Agile, Lean, Scrum, Rational Unified Process (RUP), and waterfall methods. His coaching experience includes working with waterfall teams on the adoption of iterative/incremental practices for quicker business value delivery, including the creation and delivery of customized training. He has helped institute best of breed software development and project management practices at both the project and enterprise levels. He has worked with Project Management Offices (PMOs) to help establish plans for training, consulting, mentoring of project personnel and dissemination of best practices for iterative software development that was consistent with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
Joe is a certified Scrum Master (CSM) and holds a Professional Engineering license in New Jersey. He has an MBA (Finance) from New York University and Bachelor/Master of Engineering degrees from Stevens Institute of Technology. His professional affiliations include the Project Management Institute (PMI), Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Scrum Alliance.
