Alex Brown
About
Alex Brown is the founder and Principal at Glaessel Ventures, a training and strategy consulting firm focused on consumer-centric new product development across industries. In this role, Alex connects effective Agile work methods with thoughtful strategy and consumer insight to help clients deliver successful products to market. He is also the Managing Partner of Beacon Venture Partners, a seed-stage Venture Capital Firm that uses Scrum to run operation, select investments, and support companies in the portfolio.
Prior to founding Glaessel Ventures, Alex was a partner at Recon Strategy LLC, a management consulting firm specializing in corportate strategy for the rapidly evolving healthcare industry. Alex led Recon's innovation practice, where among other things he helps companies link agile practice and product development with their corporate strategy to deliver sustainable competetive advantage.
Previously, Alex was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Product Owner of Scrum Inc, where he learned Scrum directly from its creator Jeff Sutherland. As Chief Operating Officer, Alex led daily operations for a professional services firm that used Scrum as its principal organizational framework. As Chief Product Owner, he implemented a disciplined backlog refinement, prioritization and release planning process that tripled firm profits within the first 18 months. He also created and led the Scrum training curriculum for senior executives as well as developing the modular Scrum at Scale framework to extend Scrum to larger organizations.
Prior to joining Scrum Inc., Alex was a Principal at The Boston Consulting Group, where he led more than twenty projects to improve competitive positioning and transform fortune 100 companies to leaner and more agile operations. His project experience includes cases in the retail/consumer, IT, manufacturing, healthcare, finance, and government sectors. Alex holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Palmer Scholar. He also earned a B.S. and Masters in Engineering from Cornell University.
