About

Title: Agile/Scrum Coach

Andrew Rose had an early start to STEM topics thanks to grandparents who provided him with formative toys and tools at an early age - Chemistry Set at age 4, Soldering irons and transistor radio kits at age 6 and the Commodore VIC-20 at age 8. These formed the foundations leading to a childhood passion in particle physics (he thought he could play LEGO with the building blocks of the universe) then a Computer Science Degree during his university years (a backyard collider was outside of the family budget, so Computer Science it was).

Most importantly, his passion to share knowledge with peers that want to grow. He started an underground computer science mentoring network at university, which the Chair of the department sponsored once discovered. He spent extra effort after school assisting young students with Autism and blindness to decompose and solve complex problems.

During his professional technology career of over 20 years, Andrew has worked on many software projects in the insurance and finance industries. His contributions include developing Problem Management Engineering teams at Amazon.com, an offshore call centre team and new DevOps teams at a government agency.

“My goal is to equip teams with the tools they need to take on progressively challenging problems while maintaining a fun, and engaging organizational culture”. To aid in this goal, Andrew completed his CAL2 credential which motivated him to complete his certification in Organizational Coaching and Leadership at the University of British Columbia. He is a certified coach through the International Coaching Federation.

As an Agile Coach, Andrew brings a rare blend of disciplines together: Software Development, Business Analysis, Quality Assurance, Business Architecture, Information Architecture, Instructional Design, and Graphic Facilitation. Adding in team coaching expertise makes him a pathfinder for teams that need a creative approach to complex problem-solving.

Andrew is currently reading and thinking about the creation of generative team cultures through a mix of systemic coaching, agile coaching, visual storytelling and leadership practices.

When Andrew finally puts down the Harvard Business Review, he has been known to run half marathons, build drones. When his young son brings out the markers and crayons, Andrew uses his visual storytelling techniques to create colouring books on the fly.
