Summary:

Motivation, persistence, and perseverance are the distinct traits of determined, dedicated individuals who can make things happen. It’s always possible, even when the task is awesome, to transform the mindset of human beings.

Located in the capital city of India, New Delhi, Tihar is one of the largest prisons in the world. Within a prison complex of over 200 acres are housed more than 11,000 inmates — men, women, adolescents, children, Indians, and foreigners. They comprise unconvicted alleged offenders, convicts, and remandees. It was a limping and languishing institution condemned by the media, isolated from the community, exploited, used and abused.

Dr. Kiran Bedi (then 44) was appointed the inspector general of Tihar prison on May 1, 1993. She brought about fundamental changes, giving a human face to the administrative structure and creating an exemplary system covering every possible aspect of prison management. The whole objective was to initiate and strengthen, collectively and individually, the transition from a wooden system to a responsive and sensitive administration. The efforts unfolded a process of reformation involving prison administration, prisoners, and the community, aligned toward one common goal: “correction” through a collective and community-based approach.

Summary:

Many groups ask, “How can we do Agile at scale in our big, complex group?” This is the wrong question. Why? Because traditional large groups have unnecessary complexity due to their organizational designs. A different and subtler question is, “How can we simplify the organization, and be Agile rather than do Agile?” So LeSS is about simplifying big organizations and figuring out how to apply the principles, purpose, elements, and elegance of Scrum in a large-scale context, as simply as possible.

One of the key principles of LeSS is systems thinking, and in this talk we will explore how to think about your big systems, and become Agile by descaling.

Summary:

An entrepreneur is someone who sees possibilities, opportunity, experiments to be run, and lessons to be learned and has the courage and motivation to do whatever it takes to be successful.

There is a popular saying: “Think globally, act locally.” In our world of work, we need to think about what our organization is trying to accomplish … the vision and purpose. Then do whatever is necessary to accomplish that vision.

In this talk, we will look at what it means to have an entrepreneurial spirit and how it is vital to the success of any organization and of ourselves as individuals.
