A Journey towards Agile - What I had to learn to become a Scrum Master, and Agile coach
Christoph Schmied
Room: Partenkirchen
Track: Amplify Learning [Shu]
Session Type: Talk
Summary: This is a case study about my personal transition from being a system administrator to a CSP and beyond.
Learning Objects:

The audience will hear the story of my rather unplanned, and unusual personal development from being a System Administrator, towards becoming a Scrum Master, and Agile coach and trainer. I hope my story will inspire others to become agile practitioners, coaches, or respectively CSPs.

I was lucky enough to have an experienced mentor who helped me a lot to find my way. During my talk, I want to raise the awareness that everyone of us can help our colleagues and friends, and be a mentor by ourselves.

Are recruitment and HR the biggest impediments to scrum success?

Room: Barcelona
Track: Empowering People [Shu]
Session Type: Talk
Summary: Building great scrum teams means changing recruitment and HR. We need to ban bonuses, abolish appraisals and write job ads as user stories.
Learning Objects:

If there are recruiters or HR people in the audience, this session will start them thinking about the things they need to learn, and the ways they need to change, to help build high-performing and happy agile teams. If there are practitioners in the audience, they will go away with a fire in their belly about the damage these problems are causing to the agile community, and how they can bring about change by challenging these problems in their own organisations as soon as they go back to work.

If we want to maximize freedom for smart creatives, we can’t just trust it to others, we have to create and own it ourselves, and make it happen together.
