About me (the trainer)

This class is led by Valerio Zanini, CST, CSM, CSPO and CPIT. Formerly a Director of Product Development at Capital One where he led several Scrum product teams and launched new multi-million dollar digital products. Now a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) with Scrum Alliance and a Certified Product Innovation Trainer (CPIT) with Spark Engine, he is the author of Deliver Great Products That Customers Love and co-author of Sprint Your Way to Scrum.

Valerio has more than 20 years of professional experience spanning product development, agile transformation, design thinking, and training. He helps organizations worldwide adopt Scrum, improve product development practices, and launch great products. He provides consulting and training to organizations of any size, helping them become more innovative with Agile, Scrum, SAFe, Product Management, and Design Thinking practices.

When he was a Capital One where he led digital product development initiatives for retail bank and transformed how customers interact with bankers. One of his projects was presented at Dreamforce 2017 as the largest Salesforce implementation in the Financial Services industry to-date. Together with his team, Valerio launched the MVP in market in just 4.5 months by adopting Scrum practices and focusing on key priorities. 

He is a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST), a SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), and a Kanban Management Professional (KMP II). As a Certified Product Innovation Trainer (CPIT), he also teaches the master-level class Certified Product Innovation Professional (CPIP) with Spark Engine.

I bring real life experience from having built and launched digital products in a variety of industries, and having coached Product Management and Scrum teams at different stages of their development journey. I share the real-life experiences with my students for a more effective and realistic learning experience.

I am a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) with Scrum Alliance and a Certified Product Innovation Trainer (CPIT) with Spark Engine. I have also completed advance training programs for instructors and coaches, including CCTA Level 1 Coach with the Coach Certification Training Academy, Training from the Back of the Room (TBR), and Landmark Self-Expression and Leadership Program (SELP). As a result, my classes are highly interactive, based on on simulations and real-life discussions, rather than boring Powerpoint lectures.

My classes are taught over multiple days to minimize the impact on your work schedule, and also give you more time to absorb concepts. And, I strive to support my students both during the class and after it with follow-up coaching and additional resources to keep learning about Scrum and Product Management practices.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation requests submitted at least 7 business days or more prior to the start of the course are entitled to a full refund (minus eventual Eventbrite fees). Students submitting cancellation requests less than 7 business days prior to the start of the course will be offered a credit toward a future course of equivalent value within one year, or a refund of 50% the amount paid for registration. No shows on either day of the class receive no refund. Should the organizer cancel the course for any reason, each registered student will be issued a full refund.

Structure of the class

Format: Learn-from-home course (via Zoom) with live instructor USA-based. Learn by doing with practical exercises and simulations. Workbook provided.

3-Sprint format: Divided in 3 half-days (5 hours/day) for work-life balance.

Max class size: Limited number of students for focused attention with the instructor and more air-time for questions and discussions.

Certification: This class includes the Certified Scrum Product Owner certification.

This class teaches Scrum foundations and Product Management techniques that can be applied to any project, with a focus on an Agile and Scrum context. You will learn in-depth practices and tools to become an effective Product Owner and effectively execute your role within the Scrum framework.

• The three areas of responsibility for a Product Owner
• Describing Strategy, Vision, and different levels of planning
• Defining the the Product Goal with the Product Goal Canvas
• Difference between delivering outputs versus outcomes
• Understanding customers and user needs with discovery activities

• Validating product assumptions
• Various techniques to build prototypes and MVPs
• Managing the Product Backlog and Backlog refinement activities

Prerequisites

There is no required prior certificate, educational background, or work experience needed to participate in this CSPO course and receive the certification. However, prior experience with building a product, launching a product in market, or managing a project is beneficial.

A few pre-class reading materials are provided before the class starts to get you acquainted to new concepts and applications of Agile and Scrum.

A working computer with microphone and camera is needed to connect via Zoom and participate. Full participation in the class is required for certification.
