Certified Agile Leader (CAL-1)

In NextUp’s two-day Certified Agile Leader (CAL-1) course, students will complete our Scrum Alliance accredited agile leadership curriculum. This class explores the definition, utility, and application of Agile leadership, as well as the mindset, knowledge, and awareness needed to serve Agile teams as a direct leader. Students will learn the 12 conditions that underly the formation of high performing Agile teams and essential coaching skills for nurturing them. Students also explore the impact of organizational structure on business Agility, learn to conceptualize value flow, and apply an empirical approach to organizational change management. Our Certified Agile Leader training is a highly interactive experience. Participants will apply Agile leadership fundamentals, scaling, and teaming principles to the dynamics of their own organization..

Teaching Style

The class is presented in a highly interactive and collaborative format with elements of lecture, classroom discussion, exercises, simulations, and video interwoven throughout the class. Students will have the opportunity to hear real-world examples of Agile application from their instructors.

Location Details

This is an online (virtual) class. Both days of training will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 5:00 p.m. EST, with breaks throughout the day. After registering, students will be given the proper Zoom weblink with which to join the meeting. We recommend that students download the Zoom web-based application prior to joining class.

The class duration was perfectly suited to the material presented, ensuring that everything was covered without feeling rushed or overwhelming. One of the highlights for me was the use of breakout sessions/rooms, which provided hands-on opportunities to actively apply the lessons we learned. This really helped solidify the concepts and made the course engaging. Big shout out to Patrick for making this a great learning experience! I’m already looking forward to the next class with him. Very informative with real world examples.

I enjoy the trainer and he does a great job even when people are not responding or being truly engaged. My critique of the class is that Scrum and Kanban are good methodolgies, however when looking at becoming a Leader, things like Agile at Scale or Disciplined Agile would great to start exploring as growth areas to grow teams. Also, meeting facilitation feels out of place in a leader class, mostly because we are already facilitating meetings and agile processes regularly
