agile42’s highly interactive 15-hour Certified Scrum Developer class provides hands-on learning focused on the team members who will be building the product. In this class, students will learn techniques that help teams around the world build shippable increments of products in short timeframes. In addition to learning concepts and techniques, students apply this learning by building usable products in three 1-hour sprints. The groups must create a usable product at the end of each sprint. This hyper-compressed timeframe requires that students use Agile development techniques and strip out unnecessary waste in order to deliver a quality product on time.

This class can be tailored to fit most development environments and many non-software products as well. We also encourage anyone who helps build the product to attend. We regularly involve designers, testers, analysts, and other individual contributors in class exercises.

Lean, Agile, and Scrum Fundamentals
Definition of Done, a key practice in ensuring quality standards are met
Effective Team Dynamics, the difference between true teams and working groups, and how to develop as a team
Emergent Architecture and Design, approaches that allow designs and architecture to emerge and change over time
Test-First Development, building quality into the development process rather than relying only on checking for errors later
Refactoring as a practice to continually increase quality and built-in maintainability
Continuous Integration and code ownership to detect integration errors as quickly as possible

Who should attend

This training is designed to help anyone who has a hand in building the product. This includes Software Engineers, QA Engineers, DB Administrators, Designers, and others. We will cover technical topics, however, a coding background is not required for this class – just an openness to learning.

Loved the instructor- He was very calm and had a wonderful way of engaging with the students. I would have liked a bit more of an introduction to SCRUM/Sprint methodology before diving into the Developer specific tools and first sprint example. I know that 'developer' covers all sorts of fields, but for our companies specific needs, it would be nice to have an experienced Unity Instructor (rather than java or another programming language) expert who could guide us through the best approaches to TDD and Pair programming specific to C#/Unity Engine options or best practices. Personally, I would have liked access to course content/pdfs/diagrams beforehand so we could follow along with instructor as he introduces new concepts. While I do feel as if I learned developer specific tools, I don't think enough time is spent on clearly defing these tools/approaches or practicing them in class (for example, we could have more focus on specific examples of TDD that we work on together, or try out a pair programming session during the class). If we had known before hand, me and my collegues could have preparred a source control version (Plastic SCM) of an application that then we could all work on at the same time, rather than watching one person implement all the scripts, etc during the 3 practice sprints. Maybe one solution to this, could be courses that are designated for a specific programming language or engine, so all the participants know a bit before hand and the coding examples can be more specific and clear for the students, rather than generalized overview approach.

The product quality is excellent. The value? Where is Scrum Alliance in our daily lives? I mean, I've heard of them, but I don't see where they are in the community. They offer excellent courses, because of the trainer who did a lot of homework, and they have certifications. However I don't see what they give back to the development community on the whole. I'd love to see examples of that.
