Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner®

Arlen was a wealth of knowledge throughout the course and was incredibly friendly throughout. The course focused ultimately on what the Product Owner was intended to do in a Scrum team, which unfortunately is not the way my company uses Product Owners. Some of the content apply to areas I would like to focus on in my current role but don't have the opportunity to do so, such as business case development or prioritization. At this point these items are more theoretical than practical for me. Good knowledge to have. An additional benefit was that during conversation I heard of some techniques that other Product Owners do that would be of benefit to my team (e.g. 15 minute story time after Daily Scrum, retro goals as stories on our Sprint board). I was able to successfully suggest these to my team and am now in my first sprint of execution, and the team seems to like these.

I leave the course feeling it was more theoretical than practical; there wasn't a lot of content that I could apply to my current role. This course was focused on the Product Owner role as it was intended within Scrum, which is very different than how companies use Product Owners in their teams (which the instructor acknowledged on numerous occasions). As a result much of the content focused on items that I as a Product Owner do not have control over and am not asked to on a day-to-day basis unless I move into another role like a Product Manager or Chief Product Owner. I did find some useful recommendations to take away to my team, but these were brought forward by other Product Owners in the course; items that they do that could be beneficial to my team (e.g. doing backlog refinement after Daily Scrum or having retro items as a story on your board for visibility). The instructor themselves was a wealth of knowledge and very friendly.

Well delivered interactive training that is more than worth your time. Arlen facilitates and moves the class along briskly with plenty of hands on sessions so you can go through the techniques he presents. He's also an expert and understands that the real world presents unique challenges. The class provided a refresher on some things I already knew, but offers new techniques and different perspectives on how to approach your work as a product owner.

The content was unique compared to other courses I considered, which is why I chose this one. The facilitation and exercises helped make connections to the concepts being taught, which made applying them easier.

I found this course very engaging and I enjoyed every minute of it. I was a bit sad when it was coming to an end. A birthday well spent.
