About the course
This intensive three-day course delves into the foundational principles and methodologies of Scrum, providing participants with hands-on experience and practical insights. Through a series of interactive exercises, attendees will apply Scrum theory in real-world scenarios, dedicating approximately 5 hours per day to course-related activities. This includes 4 hours of live virtual conference sessions, followed by 1 hour of self-directed reading and research.
Throughout the course, participants will engage with essential Scrum tools such as the Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, and Taskboards. They will navigate the complete Scrum cycle, gaining proficiency in key activities such as Sprint Planning meetings, Daily Scrum sessions, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
Upon successful completion of the course, attendees will be well-prepared to undertake the Scrum Alliance assessment exam. This online, multiple-choice examination is a prerequisite for obtaining Certified ScrumMaster accreditation, which includes a two-year membership in the Scrum Alliance. This membership grants access to exclusive ScrumMaster resources and materials, enhancing ongoing professional development.

- An introduction to Scrum, including the topics: What is Agile software development, Where does Scrum come from, What is Scrum, and the Scrum meetings.
- The product backlog includes the following topics: What is the product backlog? What is the size of the backlog items? What is the writing of user stories? What is Priority?
- Measuring progress, including the topics: Agile Estimating, Planning Poker, Sprint burndown graphs, and task boards.
- Software quality, including the topics: Definition of "Done" and Technical Debt.
- Roles and responsibilities, including the topics: Scrum Master, Product Owner, and The Team.
- Releasing including the topics: Sprints, Release burndown graphs.
- Scaling Scrum, including two different models for Scaling.
- Programs offered by the Scrum Alliance, and closing activities
About the Trainer
Kane Mar boasts an extensive 20-year career in developing, coaching, and spearheading software projects. His journey into the Agile software development realm commenced in 2001, marked by a pivotal collaboration with Ken Schwaber. Mar's commitment to excellence led to his early distinction as one of the inaugural 30 Certified Scrum Trainers in 2006, followed by his pioneering role as one of the first three Certified Scrum Coaches in 2007.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mar has left an indelible mark on some of the globe's largest enterprises, including Microsoft, Oracle, Capital One, MetLife, Nationwide Insurance, and JPM. His expertise transcends borders, as he has provided invaluable training and coaching to software teams spanning North America, Northern Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
In addition to his impactful training and coaching endeavours, Mar actively champions community engagement. He routinely lends his expertise to industry events, serving as a featured speaker at local conventions, user groups, and online forums.
