Module

Description

Instructor Note

All modules combine hands-on exercises with interactive lectures. Learners rarely go more than ten minutes without doing an activity to learn or reinforce their learning.

Orientation

Opening to class, setting working agreements, explaining course structure, conducting introductions

The Scrumdementals

Introduces the foundational principles of Agile/Scrum. It starts by explaining that Scrum's fundamental purpose is to deliver sustainable value.

You will learn why Scrum works and why teams are more effective using the Scrum framework.

Scrum Workflow

Introduces the overall flow of Scrum and how it is a sustainable process for delivering value.

The People in Scrum

Dives into the three jobs in a Scrum Team and how they work with stakeholders to deliver value.

Clearly outlines the jobs to be done and the flow of value through the people's interactions

The How

The rest of the course dives into the "Art of Product Management," where a Product Owner takes a concept from Vision to a Sprint-ready backlog.

Product Vocabulary

We establish the overarching product vocabulary that precedes starting a Sprint. This is anchored in the dual principles of "Start with the end in mind" by showing what a healthy Product Backlog looks like and "Value is the goal of Scrum," where we look at how value is defined and measured.

Crafting a Vision

This module begins an ongoing product simulation in which the learners pick a product concept and craft it from Vision to Backlog.

In this module, we learn how to craft Product Purpose and Vision statements to define the product's "why." We will also define value and how we define the exchange of value.

Identify Product Assumptions

This module moves us into the strategy stage of the Product Discovery Funnel and teaches the Product Owner how to start with their known assumptions and customer profiles to determine what needs to be validated for the product concept to be sound.

Validating Product Assumptions

Product Owners will learn the various methods to validate product assumptions and how to craft hypothesis tests to validate the assumptions.

Stakeholder Interactions

Continuing the principle of "start with the end in mind," this module takes the Product Owner to the end of the Product Discovery funnel, looking into the value feedback event, the Sprint Review. It also guides identifying stakeholders and who the PO needs to prioritize their interactions with.

Vision to Product Goal

It is now time to connect strategic planning to the tactical implementation of Scrum. This module will teach learners about divergent and convergent road mapping and how to move this to the creation of a focused Product Goal

Deepen the Product Backlog

With a Product Goal established and the start of a Product Backlog, the learners will now learn how to "break the big rocks" of the Backlog into smaller pieces that can be realistically taken on and completed in a Sprint.

Getting to Ready

Now is the time to get work to "Ready for Sprint" level detail with a dive into Product Backlog Refinement and crafting of Product Backlog Items (User Stories)

Ready for Sprint

We conclude the learning by crafting a solid Sprint Goal and examining the Product Owners' job in Sprint Planning.

Next Steps

How to claim your certification, renew your certification, and possible next steps in your learning journey.

Who Should Attend

Anyone interested in how value is created for the business and the customer will benefit from this workshop, including:

  • Product Managers
  • Business Analysts
  • Project and Program Managers
  • Entrepreneurs and Startup Founders
  • UX Designers
  • Architects
  • Senior Executives and Leaders
  • Scrum Team Members
  • Agile Coaches and Scrum Masters

If you are interested in Agile and Scrum, this CSPO course can provide valuable insights for professionals looking to expand their knowledge of Agile methodologies and Scrum.

Our commitment to you.

Sustainable Pace: We will break every hour for ten minutes. We know learning is best done in small doses with time to process it. You also need time to move, stretch, grab a cup of coffee, or figure out what the cat just did in the living room.

Small Class Sizes: Roughly 20% of all public CSPO classes have more than 40 people in them, which is not conducive to a good learning experience. Our average class size is 10-12 students, which allows for a highly interactive experience with your instructor and your fellow students.

You won’t be bored: We don’t believe in “death by slide” teaching. Your workshop will be highly engaging and focused on giving you the learning you want. Every module includes at least one hands-on breakout exercise with three or four other students. You will be part of a mini-startup designing a product from inception to Sprint-ready backlog.

If you aren’t getting value, we have failed you: This class is for you. If you are not getting value, are not learning, or do not understand the material, then let us know. It’s our job to fix it.
