Technical Requirements

To participate fully in this interactive online course, you will need a stable internet connection, a webcam, a microphone, and the ability to use common online collaboration tools like Zoom. We may also utilize online whiteboarding tools (like Miro or Mural). More detailed information will be provided before class starts.

PDUs and SEUs

This course qualifies for Professional Development Units (PDUs) for PMP® certification renewal through the Project Management Institute (PMI), typically 14-16 PDUs for a 2-day course. It also qualifies for Scrum Education Units (SEUs) towards renewing your Scrum Alliance certifications.

A-CSM Certification Details

There is no exam required for the Advanced Certified ScrumMaster® certification. To earn your A-CSM certification from Scrum Alliance, you must:

  1. Hold an active Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) certification with Scrum Alliance.
  2. Fully attend and actively participate in this entire A-CSM course, demonstrating the learning objectives.
  3. Log at least 12 months of work experience specific to the Scrum Master role (gained within the last five years) on your Scrum Alliance profile.

Once you complete the course *and* have logged the required experience, Brian will recommend you for certification. You will then receive an email from Scrum Alliance prompting you to accept the A-CSM license agreement on your profile. Completing the A-CSM also extends your Scrum Alliance membership for 2 years from the date the A-CSM is earned.

Cancellation & Transfer Policy

We understand plans can change. In an emergency, we will do everything we can to help you reschedule your class time. We do not offer cancellations though.

Key Learning Areas:

This Advanced Certified ScrumMaster® (A-CSM) course builds upon your CSM foundation, exploring practical techniques and deeper insights to enhance your effectiveness in complex situations. Key areas we explore include:

  • Agile & Scrum Values Revisited: Deepening your understanding and application of the core principles that drive agility and effective Scrum implementation.
  • Advanced Facilitation & Coaching: Mastering techniques for facilitating challenging conversations, coaching individuals (Team Members, Product Owners, Managers), team dynamics, and resolving conflict.
  • Serving the Team, PO & Organization: Exploring advanced strategies for fostering team self-organization (including DevOps awareness), collaborating with the Product Owner on maximizing value, and engaging the wider organization to remove systemic impediments.
  • Scaling Scrum & Organizational Change: Understanding common patterns and considerations for scaling Scrum effectively and how to act as a catalyst for change within your organization.
  • The Evolving Scrum Master & AI: Developing your personal Scrum Mastery path, focusing on continuous improvement, and exploring how AI can augment (not replace) the SM role in today's environment.

Learning occurs through peer-to-peer sharing, advanced exercises, complex simulations, and expert-led discussions addressing your real-world challenges.

Breaks & Q&A: The training day is structured to keep you energized and includes generous breaks. We typically incorporate a one-hour break for lunch around midday, along with two 15-minute breaks (mid-morning and mid-afternoon). Brian also typically stays online after the formal class ends for an optional open Q&A session for any lingering questions.

The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster® (A-CSM) course is designed for Certified ScrumMasters (CSMs) who have at least one year of hands-on experience working in the Scrum Master role and are ready to deepen their expertise.

This course moves beyond the fundamentals covered in CSM, focusing on advanced facilitation, coaching, and leadership skills. It is ideal if you want to improve your ability to work with team dynamics, navigate organizational challenges, and foster greater agility.

Scrum Alliance Prerequisites for A-CSM Certification:

  • Hold an active Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) certification with Scrum Alliance.
  • Successfully complete this A-CSM educational offering (including active participation).
  • Document at least 12 months of work experience specific to the Scrum Master role (within the last 5 years) on your Scrum Alliance profile.

Note: You can attend the course before having the full 12 months of experience, but your A-CSM certification will only be issued by Scrum Alliance once all requirements are met.

This course is particularly valuable for:

  • Experienced Scrum Masters seeking greater effectiveness and impact.
  • Agile Coaches wanting to refine their Scrum-specific coaching and facilitation skills.
  • Team Leads or Managers looking for advanced insights into Agile leadership and team development.
  • Anyone pursuing the path to Certified Scrum Professional® - ScrumMaster (CSP-SM).

Course Expectations & Participation

This Advanced Certified ScrumMaster® (A-CSM) course is a highly interactive, experiential learning environment. Your active participation, willingness to share your own Scrum Master experiences (successes and challenges!), and engagement with fellow participants are crucial for maximizing learning value for everyone and for meeting the A-CSM learning objectives required for certification.

We expect all participants to:

  • Arrive on time for the start of the course and after breaks.
  • Remain fully present and engaged during all course activities, exercises, and discussions. This includes enabling your webcam throughout the live sessions as required by Scrum Alliance for virtual training.
  • Participate from a quiet environment conducive to collaborative learning, free from significant distractions.
  • You are expected to behave in a professional manner. Anything that would get you in trouble with your HR department could get you kicked out of this class as well.
  • It is expected that you will always treat your fellow students with respect. If we receive a complaint, we will investigate and if supported, we will take action and remove you from the class.

Attendance Policy: Due to the highly interactive nature of this course and Scrum Alliance requirements for live training hours, participants cannot miss more than 15 minutes of the total combined class time. Missing more than this allocated time will unfortunately require you to reschedule for a future course date to receive your certification (additional fees may apply based on our transfer policy).

We look forward to collaborating, sharing experiences, and deepening our Scrum mastery together!
