Requirements
The CSP-PO symbolizes a profound commitment to excellence in product ownership. Below are the requirements to gain the CSP-PO:
- Hold an Advanced Certified Product Owner (A-CSPO) certification with Scrum Alliance (your A-CSPO can be active or expired, and both your A-CSPO and CSPO will renew automatically when you earn the CSP-PO)
- Attend a certified CSP-PO educational offering to gain knowledge in implementing purpose and strategy, high-level approaches for testing product assumptions, and advanced product backlog management techniques
- Successfully complete all components of an approved educational offering, including any necessary pre- or post-course work
- Accept the CSP-PO License Agreement and complete the Scrum Alliance membership profile
- Validate at least 24 months of work experience specific to the role of product owner within the past five years
Maintain your CSP-PO by earning Scrum Education Units and renewing your certification every two years.

Established in 2001, Scrum Alliance provides certifications with substance: Once you earn the badge, the renewal requirements include proof that you've continued to grow your knowledge—by reading books, watching webinars, attending events, etc.
Earn Scrum Education Units with every learning opportunity you complete. SEUs are required for certification renewal every two years. Instead of a one-and-done lifetime certification, you'll have a badge that proves to employers your commitment to continuously growing, evolving, and expanding what you know.

The A-CSPO (Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner) is a prerequisite for the CSP-PO certification. While A-CSPO focuses on expanding the skill set of a product owner beyond the basics, the CSP-PO course teaches advanced strategies, validation techniques, and management skills required for product backlog management and customer interactions.
To obtain the CSP-PO certification, you must hold an A-CSPO certification, attend a certified CSP-PO educational offering, complete all required coursework, accept the CSP-PO License Agreement, and validate 24 months of work experience as a product owner within the last five years.
To maintain the integrity and value of your CSP-PO certification, renew it every two years. This involves accruing 40 Scrum Education Units (SEUs), completing the renewal application on the Scrum Alliance website, and paying the renewal fee of $250.
