With over two decades of experience in the technology field, Doug Shimp has held a wide array of key roles in software product development, including Developer, QA, Analyst, Manager, Director of IT, Leader, Coach, and Consultant. With a strong foundation in chemistry, he started programming in C/C++ and Smalltalk programming, Doug recognizes the importance of clean code and the collaborative power of teams to create it. His depth of experience ensures that few development challenges brought up in his training are unfamiliar to him.
As a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) and founder of 3Back, Doug is dedicated to refining Scrum practices for real-world application. He firmly believes that mastery comes through practice, and his training emphasizes both in-class learning and practical application outside of it. Learners leave Doug's sessions equipped to make significant contributions to their Scrum teams.
Doug is also an author of the Scrum Leadership Series and Product Owner of the Scrum tool Get To Done ®, which addresses the needs of Scrum teams to deliver the right product efficiently without cumbersome tools hindering the process. As the Product Owner of Scrum Dictionary, Doug ensures that it serves as an invaluable reference for Scrum practitioners, offering clear definitions and practical insights into Scrum terminology and practices.
Engaging in Doug’s learning experience means active participation—building products, collaborating in Scrum teams, and engaging fully in Scrum ceremonies. His dynamic teaching style ensures a hands-on experience that’s hard to forget.
Doug's work on the Scrum Handbooks delves into Scaling Scrum with Scrum® paradigm, offering two key frameworks: Single-Team Scrum and Multi-Team Scrum. His core guidance emphasizes that each team must develop a version of Scrum tailored to their unique context, free from rigid definitions or strict rules. However, as teams scale and collaborate with others, alignment becomes essential—a central challenge in the process of scaling Scrum effectively.
Doug is currently the CEO at Tuna Traffic a Marketing and Technology company in South East Wisconsin.
