Lisa Goebel Life is a journey and I am a firm believer that it’s up to me to make a full, happy life – both personally and professionally. Here’s a brief summary of the roads I’ve taken in my professional journey: Throughout college I really didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up. After four years I walked away with a degree in physics – with an emphasis in astrophysics. I know, I know, I can hear you asking yourself “Undecided in college and she majors in physics! Why not basket weaving?” What can I say? I love science! My first career job was at Kennedy Space Center working on shuttle maintenance software. It was an amazing place to work and I got to do some pretty cool things – like sticking my head into the hatch of a shuttle on the launch pad. My second career job was at a bank. If you think banking is not as exciting as launching shuttles you’d be wrong! I was responsible for a couple of very interesting systems – like tracking money launderers. My current career job is in health insurance. I must say that when I left banking to move to health insurance, my banking peers snickered. They were sure health insurance fell rock bottom in the “let’s have fun” industry scale. But in the 23 years I’ve been in this industry, I’ve worked on some pretty cool things - like being the first company in the nation to sell gift cards for insurance and collaborating with Walt Disney World Imagineers to develop a health related attraction at Epcot Center. All in all, my journey to date has been full of welcomed challenges, exciting projects, and happy memories!
