Scott Hammer
About
Scott Hammer is an Agile Leader and Technical Coach specializing in Scrum and XP. He brings 20+ years of experience in software development, most recently in mobile application development on the Android platform. Scott blends technical and process skills with with strong people and leadership skills. He brings experiences as a military veteran, developer, architect, consultant and manager, resulting in a mature and level-headed approach to coaching.
Scott joined the US Army straight out of high school and spent 8 years on active duty, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He experienced his first taste of leadership in the Army, though it was heavily command and control. That said, more is required of a leader to convince a group of people to do something that may imperil their life.
Scott worked his way through a BS degree in Computer Science at the University of Iowa and started his career as a developer with EDS. Later, he joined the ranks of consulting at Ernst & Young, Braun Consulting and BEA Systems. Along the way, he experienced a heavy dose of waterfall development methodologies while honing his development skills.
After an accidental and brief stint in consulting sales at Oracle, Scott got back to his roots as a contract developer at General Motors. It was at GM that he experienced a green field Agile transformation in which his team adopted Scrum and eXtreme Programming (XP). He spent 8.5 years in various Agile roles within and around this set of teams. It was the first time in his career that he truly realized what it meant to be a professional developer.
Along his journey, Scott received coaching and mentorship from some fine Agilists, and eventually decided that he could do more for this world by joining the ranks of Agile Coaching. It's been a great journey so far!
