Keep learning. Stay competitive.
Scrum Education Units
Each hour of your continuing education—the time you spend reading articles, volunteering, attending events, and taking courses—equals one Scrum Education Unit® (SEU®).

Why do I need Scrum Education Units?
Put simply, the time you spend practicing and studying scrum and agile gives you a competitive edge, and so does leveraging those learnings to renew your Scrum Alliance certification.
To ensure Scrum Alliance-certified professionals possess the most up-to-date, in-demand knowledge in the realm of scrum and agile, we require a certification-specific number of SEUs before you renew your certification every two years. This maintains the credibility of your Scrum Alliance certification.
Visit your member dashboard to add new SEUs.
Renewal requirements
This table shows, in hierarchical order, the different Scrum Alliance certifications you might hold and how many hours (SEUs) of continuing education you need to qualify for renewal. Alternatively, if you attend a secondary Scrum Alliance certification course, your previously earned certifications automatically renew.
No need to worry about renewing your microcredentials! They never expire.

How to earn SEUs
There are four (4) categories you can choose from when selecting SEUs. The information provided below for each category describes your choices.
Examples include reading books or articles, preparing a presentation, and watching a webinar.
Logging SEUs
Add your educational activities to your Scrum Alliance dashboard to get credit for your commitment to continuous improvement. Remember that 1 hour of learning equals 1 SEU. So start logging your SEUs today!
- Log into scrumalliance.org
- Click "Renewal" in the menu on the left side of your screen
- When you arrive at the Renewal page, scroll to "My SEU Log"
- On the right side of My SEU Log, click "Add SEUs"
- Follow the step-by-step instructions to add new SEUs

Did you know you get SEUs automatically for reading and watching content on the Resource Library? Log into your dashboard to start racking up the SEUs.
As you explore the content on our website, you will see an icon indicating how many eligible SEUs you'll receive for each article or video.
Read these articles, earn SEUs!
An SEU is based on a 1:1 ratio of hours to units. For example, if you attend a Scrum Gathering® and participate for the entire three days, you will earn a maximum of 24 SEUs. Attending a one (1) hour webinar is equivalent to one (1) SEU.
Many educational activities easily count for SEU credit. Reading books, attending mentoring or training sessions, watching webinars, and volunteering are just a few ideas.
In instances where you participate in learning opportunities where you are the student and not the trainer/coach, you can count these hours under the Learning category. Conversely, in instances where you are the trainer/coach, these hours would best fit in your work experience on your Scrum Alliance profile rather than SEU credit. There are three exceptions. In these cases, your training/coaching experience can be counted for SEUs:
- You have volunteered training for nonprofit organizations other than your employer (Volunteering category).
- You've researched and prepared training materials (Learning category).
- You are a co-trainer, learning from a more experienced trainer (Learning category).
For all certification renewal cycles, SEUs must have been earned within thirty (30) months.
Please include a few words or a short sentence describing the activity.
